Remodel: Paper Countertops...yep, paper

Have to say, one of the exciting things about remodeling this house was the chance to use whatever knowledge I'd manage to store away from my decorating career.

A couple years ago, I was hired by a California kitchen designer to help research products for her personal kitchen. One of the products I came across was PaperStone.www.paperstoneproducts.com Ultimately, she chose marble for her countertops, but the idea of recycled paper stuck with me.

"PaperStone is a composite made from recycled paper and proprietary, petroleum-free phenolic resins made from raw materials like cashew nut shell liquid. It is the "greenest" architectural surface on the market today."

I chose (the color) Obsidian for our countertops. It reminds me of the soapstone counters I've always loved.

PaperStone can be found at Environmental Building Supplies (which is now EcoHaus) www.ecohaus.com

Excellent! I haven't seen this before. I was thinking next time I redo my kitchen I'd go with concrete, but this is very appealing.

Outstanding! I love the look as much as I love the green construction. (I like your front door and other home details I can see, too!)

Wow! Paper countertops! That's just amazing...now let's see if I can remember that someday when I get to redo MY kitchen.

I discovered this product while I was in ID classes and was amazed that paper could be made into something so durable as a countertop too! I specified it for a "client" job and everyone in class was amazed at it (just as amazed as me!). Thanks for posting the link too...I lost a lot of my links on the old pc that died!
