A Collection of Sorts

We all find beauty in different things. Years ago I spotted this St. Bernard looking up at me from a scratched plate in a junk store in California. I had to have him.

And then I found this guy....

Both plates are advertising pieces. The text on the St. Bernard plate reads: Compliments Joseph Langer, Bisbee, N.D.; the hound plate: Compliments of I.W. Crary Mercantile Co., Quise Book (?) Nebr. (Unsure of that city name)

I adore these....

I know all too well that feeling of "having to have" things! They're unusually pensive looking pooches :)

It's funny how we start collecting things, isn't it?

Funny how you start collecting and you didn't really set out to. I have a collection of turn of century color prints which feature a girl and a dog and they all came from story books, with the text cut out and pasted on top. I liked the first one, then I found another... and another... apparently it was a trend! Nice poochie plates, by the way. Good find.

Those are sooo cool! I'm sure I've never seen anything like them before. Being such a dog lover I'm sure I would have noticed. Now I'll be looking for them everywhere I go.
