Exterior house challenge

This is what we're trying to make look better... Yesterday, we collected wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow full of lava rock from around our property to begin a dry-stack rock foundation. The lava is full of tiny holes, yet is surprising heavy.

This is as far as we got before our backs gave out in protest. (Keep in mind we also removed at least 60 concrete landscape blocks....only 300 more to go)
Next, picture the double-wide the same color as our old house (which was actually more red than this photo shows....kinda looks orangey here....)

and finally, imagine the beds filled with native plantings, similar to the ones in this photo from Heart Springs Landscape Design (the landscape designer we're meeting with next week!)

Too bad patience is not one of my virtues....

What a lot of work! Can you tell me the colors of your old house?

Christie-

Sorry...didn't write the color numbers down before we left. Wish I would have now that I want the same thing....

The red was a brownish brick red from Rodda. I just checked online and nothing they're offering this year is even close to what we painted the house the summer/fall of '06. The trim colors were from Benjamin Moore...same problem.

The front & back doors were a rich, dark eggplant. Loved all the colors together!

Good luck! I would to to see the finished results!

To answer your question on my blog: Yes, the chair is from Ikea too :) Isn't it fantastic?

Oh, goodie! The process begins. It will be exciting to see the progress as it unfolds. Take care of those backs!

Keep up the good work. I know what you are going through. Owning a home is like one big 20 year long shop project.

Oh gosh, sounds like a lot of hard yakka! It will be all worth it in the end. Just keep reminding yourselves of that :)

Love the dry stack addition! Looks so much different, with just that "little" (tons of effort, I know!!!) change. Love it!
