Making the beige go away

“Color has taken possession of me;
no longer do I have to chase after it.
I know that it has hold of me forever...
Color and I are one. I am a painter.”
- Paul Klee

In an effort to turn my beige surroundings into something a little more visually interesting, I started painting the house this weekend. I have one coat on 1/2 the front...red, does not cover well...but oh how I love that color!

I'm still waiting (on advice from the wise women in the local gardening club) for the snow to melt off Black Butte before I start planting....here she is....taunting me......MELT !
I received an Arte y Pico award from Xue Originals. Thank you! I'm suppose to pass this on to 5 other deserving blogs....but I'm choosing 3: Random Lunacy, Cicada Daydream, and Eighty 8 Words....thanks for the entertainment, ladies!

It is true, dark colors take more to cover..I remember we had painted the house brown and it took so much paint. The red is really lovely and I am sure will be beautiful when done..
Had a hard time looking at snow on the mountain top..We had too much this year.

You are the most awesome ever! Thanks so much for the award :~) I will promptly pay it forward and thank you immensely for the humbling honor :)

Take it from a painter (that would be me)...grey primer under red paint works like a charm :) (saves you money on topcoat paint as well since primer is a LOT cheaper!)

Love love love the red wall (red being my all time fave colour!) & congrats on yet another award! You'll have to ask that clever & handy hubby of yours to build an extension on your house to store & display them all :)

Thanks for the nod, Diva! Right back at ya.

The red color is just perfect... now only 18 more coats to go! :)

The red is looking great! I hadn't heard the sage advice about Black Butte. Sometimes it has snow until June! LOL That's a long time to wait to plant.

Jo...don't tell me that! June! sob!

OK I changed my mind & decided to use the picture I sent you as my new profile photo. Scary but why not. lol It was time for a change & it can always be swaped out later right?

Are you using a tinted primer?

Dark colours are pigments in a clear base so they are harder to cover. Regular paint has a white base, so using a tinted primer will help you get to the desired colour with out as many coats.

The photo of one side painted is great. Your house and your garden are lucky to have you!

Everyone sing....
Make the beige go away,
Get it off of my shoulder,
Say the things you used to say,
And, make the beige...go away.

There. I feel better. Do you?
Dandy color choice, Diva! People of Terrebonne beware... Diva intends to conquer the desert, one tumbleweed at a time ;-)
Hi Ho Silver! Away!

Wonderful red! And what a gorgeous view of the snow covered mountain! However, if the snow doesn't melt soon, I'd say be a rebel and start planting anyway!

Congrats on the award!

The house down the street from me was recently painted a really bright red. They started with a tinted primer and I remember thinking "oh god, they are painting their house salmon!" but the red went over it and turned out great!

I spent at least 2-3 times a week daydreaming about painting my house (white with grey trim) something luscious, warm, and inviting!

Love the Klee quote and the red! The coverage issue was one reason I didn't use it... though if gray primer works maybe next time.

Appreciate all the comments on the primer issue.

I chose not to use it after a hell painting job at our last house. Primed the walls with dark grey primer then put 5 (five) coats of red paint on the walls, 7 in the corners and cut in by all the cabinetry. I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown.

The red looks as if it is coming along quite nicely; I also like your uniquely shaped stoop.

I have a funny feeling you will be wishing for that snow capped mountain come July!! I hear it gets hot in the desert! We are coming your direction next weekend! I love your charm bracelet! It is so fun to have something that you can add to, but doesn't take up so much room, you have to add on to the house to hold the collection!

That red is a wonderful colour, the house is going to look great! It looks like the snow could be there for a while yet... and Marks metal and woodwork is beautiful, I'm not surprised he has sold something from his new shop already!

Black Butte, in that pic, looks very similiar to Mt Fuji!

Which part of the world is that. I mean desert and snow. Saying that they have snow in central Africa and in other hot areas of the world where there are mountains.
