“How it pours, pours, pours, In a never-ending sheet! How it drives beneath the doors! How it soaks the passer's feet! How it rattles on the shutter! How it rumples up the lawn! How 'twill sigh, and moan, and mutter, from darkness until dawn.”
- Rossiter Johnson
Ok...I'm ready for the spring rains to cease. We live in the desert. We have an average of 8 inches of rain per year. I guess it all happens in the same week?
My yard is underwater....I need to finish the path and the mulch! Oy!

Yuk. I bet when the sun finally comes out it will dry up really fast- almost too fast!
But it's certainly got to put the breaks on garden work. Nice time to hang inside, sip tea and read.
Yikes! Hang in there!!
have a good day,
April
Meanwhile, here in Australia we are living through our worst drought in history...and it's Winter!
The world weather is really whacky.
Well, on the bright side, all of this rain is super for your newly planted items!
Wishing you lots of sunshine!
Boo on rain! At least your pathway line is clearly marked by the water lol. Is your landscape more dirt than sand?
Our landscape designer describes our dirt as young volcanic soil.
It's very sandy, but it literally poofs up when you walk on it...so ash? But when I water (before we got the crazy rain) the water dried the dirt into a hard crust on top so the next time I tried to water, it just ran off. Oy!
This is why I'm mulching. We're using juniper duff for the mulch. A recommendation from our landscape designer.
It has been really rainy here too. I'm just glad it isn't snow!
I think my grass is growing overnight! Since it's been raining every day, I haven't been able to mow and I swear it's nearly knee deep in the back yard. Any other time I'd be running the sprinkler non-stop :)
I hope your rain stops soon, we have been having loads too, we need some sunshine!
: )
Ohh...happens like that in NC sometimes too! Thanks for your comment - I love that poster too!
Love those fur trimmed vintage boots. I saw some exactly like those last year that I almost bought for my daughter. I am kicking myself that I passed them up. So cool.
Oh man...hope your plants didn't drowned.
It's been raining heavy where I am for the last couple of days & my roof is leaking. Buckets scattered all over the house catching the drips. Joy of joys! I guess I should stop complaining considering how badly we need the rain over here. You can send some of yours this way. Just not directly above my house. I don't have enough buckets ;)
Missed this yesterday..You know we had 7" of rain in April..hit our cellar and ruined my furnace.Had a pump going and couldn't keep up..Hope it stops soon for you..Everything looks pretty..
Hey Harriet...sorry to hear about the leaking roof!
Rosebud...we had a basement at our old house...I do not miss the water, sump pump or wet vac...at all!
oh i do sympathize :( we have had way more than our share of rain and pouring mud as well. just today i was shoveling silt off of the patio due to a downpour that literally washed out the flower bed...that has never happened before. our soil is orange clay in a lot of places and impenetrable once it gets dry. but aside from all of that, your skyline is beautiful! you are making progress on creating your nest and i am glad i found your blog :)
your friend, bird tweet robin from down the road
Wait a minute...You're getting RAIN???!!!? What kind of desert is that? We sure as heck aren't getting any rain. 85 and sunny. Oh, and a king snake on my back porch.
I heard on the radio how much rain you guys got in such a short period! Hope you aren't drowning...Remember the four days of sunshine we had in May? Everyone around here is joking that summer has come....and gone. Let's hope not.
Sun's out today. Hooray!
that really sucks! i hope it dries up soon!!!
