Getting ready

We'll be leaving Thursday for a quick trip to Timberline Lodge for a blacksmithing event which includes daily forge demos, classes, contests, etc. Mark is going to absorb, learn and schmooze. I'm going to visit friends I haven't seen in a couple years due to scheduling conflicts. Can't wait!

The lodge is a National Historic Landmark, built between 1936-1937 by Works Progress Administration (WPA) workers. "It is the only twentieth-century public building of its size constructed and furnished entirely by hand with original craft work in wood (both carved and inlaid marquetry), wrought iron, weaving, applique, painting, mosaic, carved linoleum, and stained glass." - Friends of Timberline

Timberline, in a word, is amazing. It's a lodge, and a museum in one. Understandably one of the largest tourist attractions in Oregon. With the plethora of original wrought iron work on display, it is also a very fitting place to attend a blacksmithing event.

We haven't taken the camp trailer out since we lived in it for over 3 months while we were remodeling the house last summer. I need to bring out linens, check supplies, stock food and generally get it ready to use.

Here's a peek inside our camp trailer...

This will also be the maiden voyage of Camping with Cammie. I'll let you know how camping in a 16' trailer with a cat goes....

I think I saw that lodge on a PBS series on craft in America!

Cute camper trailer...what a homey little place.

Have I ever mentioned how your blog makes me miss the west?

Have a wonderful trip! I don't know how well your cat does on a leash, but I had a friend bring their cat camping with us and it took off. They left without her sadly, but went back and found her a few days later. They kept her leashed the next time and she seemed to enjoy it.

How cool! I didn't realize it was something you could actually "use". So fun! Have a great time at the event! Maybe you'll be doing some photojournalism for us?

I'll definitely be taking lots of photos of Timberline, interior and exterior.

We adopted Cammie last November when she was nine. She's always been an indoor cat so she'll be staying inside when we go camping.

Ahhhh, the great adventure begins, what a charming little traveler you have. Always wanted one, but with the gas prices, am afraid to venture out these days.

Have a great time, this looks like you will meet lots of like minds.

The gas prices were a definite consideration. We can still pull the trailer for less money than it costs to rent a room for two nights.

Pretty much made the decision right there.

Now, that's a camper! I'm sure you're going to have a blast and Cammie too.

Wow what a cool place to go for any reason but to attend a blacksmithing event in a place with so much wrought iron work sounds simply amazing! You two are always on the go, I live vicariously through your travels :)

Have fun & be safe. Looking forward to updates when you return :)

Is Mark bringing his work? Is it a conference type event or is he selling?

I am so jealous...I am longing for a camp trailer. If I do end up getting one, one day you need to decorate it...seriously! Have the best time, you are going to one of my all time favorite OR spots!

Just the parts that were done outside the house, in the snow... it's the lodge!
