My City Secret

A blogging event started by The Guardian UK was brought to my attention by Elizabeth, blogger extraordinaire from About New York and The House in Marrakesh. Want to join in? Simply tell us about one of your favorite quirky, hidden places preferably in your own city. A cafe, park, gallery, bar...then post the link on the The Guardian UK site.

My city is technically a town, population 4,500. Nestled in the High Desert of Central Oregon, is a canyon I now call home. No chic cafes or trendy night clubs, (happily Bend is only 30 miles away...culture can be found!) it's all about scenery here. Crooked River Ranch...come visit.

How peaceful-if it were left to me, I'd never tell...it might encourage humans to move in! :)

Beautiful. I am a dork and had no idea that the state of Oregon had a desert anywhere near it. Thank you for my little geography lesson!

2/3 of Oregon is desert, but the state is remembered for the wet, green Western side.

Well, compared to this, my local park will pale. Bah.

I've been to Oregon (one of my favorite states) but never to the central part of the state. What a paradise! Thanks for sharing.

This is one of the better ideas run by The Grun (that's a nickname we, Guardian readers, sometimes use) lately. I left a comment on the thread for benji. And what can I say? You've done it again! Amazing photos!

Greetings from London.
