Snow storm

We've had snow for the past eight days and more is expected this week.

"Announced by all the trumpets of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the fields,
Seems nowhere to alight: the whited air
Hides hills and woods, the river, and the heaven,
And veils the farmhouse at the garden's end.
The sled and traveller stopped, the courier's feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit
Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of storm."

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson, Snow-Storm

A primitive winter village scene painted on a board.
I found this years ago at a flea market in Salem, Oregon...the price...$3.

I adore this painting.

Beautiful Emerson quotation! He inspired me to live close to nature. The snow does create a cozy wrapped in down feel only I sometimes just want to throw the covers off and see a sunny day. Lovely blog.

I like to do primitive paintings..they are fun..What a pretty one you have..Hate to say this..not very positive, but do not like the snow..Will be cooking all day to keep happy..and I wonder why I gain weight in the winter...??

How appropriate that quote is! (An how much like Yoda I sound, do?)

I grew up in the Northeast, and went to college in Central Ohio. I miss the snow, but NOT the cold. When I woke up this morning, here in North Carolina, it was 24 degrees, and I had thoughts that we didn't move far enough south!

That is a lovely painting, BTW,

Hope you are staying warm! WE have more snow here than I have ever seen in the city! It is completely crazy. That is a beautiful painting you've featured.

No snow here, but really cold. It was five degrees this morning. Ouch!

We've only had about a half a foot of snow thus far in Nebraska, but it has been below zero more often than not temperature-wise. I don't mind the snow, if it's not freezing, and I don't mind the freezing if there isn't snow. I'm a fickle creature that way. *smiles*

Keep your head above the drifts!!

Snow for eight days? We've had it for two days and I'm not very happy. ;-)

Nice quote and painting.

Merry Christmas!

Here in Toronto we've had over half our annual winter precipitation already, and winter has only just arrived.

I love the snow, but sometimes you can have too much of even a good thing.

8 days is quite enough of the white stuff...I'm sure you agree.

$3?! Those good thrifting days are priceless aren't they?

I hope you can stay home, warm and toasty with a cup of tea - and a volume by my dear Emerson maybe?

I love the painting and don't you just love what poets do in the English language sometimes?

'Whited air'. Priceless.

Greetings from London.

Ug! Luckily we are getting rain now which is nice because it is washing some of the ice pack off the roads but its light so there might still be a white Christmas :) Hope the sky shines bright tomorrow and you have an awesome time! Merry Christmas :)
