Farm babies

New Year's calves born this weekend at Mark's sister's farm...awww!

“Cows are amongst the gentlest of breathing creatures;
none show more passionate tenderness to their young..."

~ Thomas De Quincey

“What I have ever sighed for has been to retreat to a Swiss farm,
and live entirely surrounded by cows...”

~ Charles Dickens

It seems early to me...they're expecting another calf any day now, too.

I was just reading your little tribute to your Grandmother...I just did the same on my blog, as I was writing away, I thought how much I missed the gentle talks we used to have and how much I miss her these 8 years, 93 when she passed on!

Cows are truly the most pleasant beasts to photograph...they just pose...naturally.

Have a great day friend!

I love the quote from Dickens! Aside from the cows, I often dream of "running away" to the country!

If the weather keeps you indoors, a few movie suggestions, grand stories, all. "North And South" - the 2004 BBC production, lavish production values, fantastic story and part takes place in the Crystal Palace. "Dr. Zhivago" - 2002 British mini-series (not the 1960s version), again, stunning visuals, out of this world costume drama. "The Impressionists" - a dramatization of the lives of the great painters and their friendships with each other - lovely. "The Buccaneers" - a 1995 Masterpiece Theater effort, very well done. They're all available through Netflix - enjoy!

Yes, yes, yes!
Ad chickens too
and a pig and a donkey.
It would be so glorious.
in fact it would be (word verification CHIPTAL)
Chiptal sounds capital and chipper
Did you see Willow's post yesterday about word verifications?
All best wishes

I am such a city girl, but WT grew up in Kansas surrounded by cows. He certainly has a soft spot in his heart for them and always talks about how friendly and gentle they were.

oh my goodness! So sweet. I was a city kid through and through, but saw a calf born at a country dairy farm with an ice cream shop attached...and wow. It was something.

Pretty little cow here. Cute!

January seems like such a cold month for baby animals! I feel so guilty about the chickens; their water keeps freezing over.

BTW, I like your self-portrait. Very distinguished reading glasses.

I used to drive by a field with cows on my way to work and practically wreck my car looking at the new calves. What a sweetie!
