Fern

I've been thinking about people who come and go in one's life. Sometimes friendships are lost to time and place. Sometimes they endure.

I met my friend Fern when I was 19.  We shared many meals and a lot of laughter.  With this friendship came a bonus, as I became good friends with her daughter Jeannie, too.  Eventually, Fern moved back to California. I think I've only seen her three times since then, but each time we meet, we are able to pick up right where we left off...as if no time has been lost.

Happy Birthday Fernie Alice!

Sometimes we move on so quickly, it's good to reflect on those good times.

I know exactly what you mean when you say you can pick up just where you left off. Says a lot, that.

Long-lived friendships like yours and Fern's are wonderful. I have a friend like that too - we met when she called asked me to teach her how to tat. She arrived at my house, and within 5 minutes we were chattering on like we'd known each other forever. I rarely see her now, but that connection is still there when we do.

Happy Birthday, Fern!

Good morning Diva,
Thank you for visiting Auntie today.
Your blog really is gorgeous.
The more I read it & look at it, the more I can relate to this book I am reading (The Last Good Kiss). You see, I'm not familiar with America's West. It seems a world away. And this story takes place out there.
Talk to you later!

How funny, an old friend sent me a Facebook request last night and I joined-we've been friends since grammar school and lost touch when I left NYC.

Long term friendships are the best, they're really a window into who and where you've been. Happy birthday Fern!

Congrats on the award-I love your blog too.

Thanks for the link, DD, and you are so right about these BFF's.

I have a few friends I go WAY back with - over 40 years - and if we don't talk for a year it makes no difference. A comfortable pair of shoes takes no getting used to. We just slide right into each other's lives with ease. Glad for you and Fern.
