Vintage score

I found this coat in a resale shop for (insert drum roll) ten bucks!
My house is dark and cavelike today due to the cloud cover and snow.
I had to lighten the photos to see any color, so everything is a bit off.

The wool coat is in fantastic shape, no funny smells, no stains, no rips or tears, no fading. Happily, this is a mens coat so it actually fits my tall, broad-shouldered frame.

I have a penchant for vintage coats.  I've been wearing this 1960's (mens) black & white checked coat since 1985, (just ignore the BIG hair) and it is still in fantastic shape.

This photo shows the color of the coat the best....a combined red/black.
Love the leather buttons.

I even love the lining.

I never get this excited buying new clothes.
Maybe I was born in the wrong era.

Love the coat, the reds are just so warm and comforting, like listening to Prairie Home Companion!

Maybe you just like quality. It's an excellent coat and I love the buttons, too. The art teacher at our school just bought a men's coat very similar to this. Now I understand why she was so excited. I think she paid the same amount for it.
Good find!

Oh Michelle!
Thanks for the laugh! I'd forgotten about that photo of you from high school. Love the coat, but the hair takes the prize!

Ten bucks? What a score! Is a resale shop another term for an op shop? Or you call them something different I think but I can't remember what now...

Doesn't matter. Great coat!

Thrift shop!

Came to me just as I hit 'publish your comment' - wasn't quick enough :)

Fabulous! And, I think we all used to go to the same hair dresser.

Great coat! I think the thrill of the hunt is just different with thrift shopping. My best find was a custom Yyves Saint Laurent men's 3-piece suit for $15 that fit my 6ft 4in,160 lb. son like a glove! ; )

I love it...I too wear men's coats, straight from the Good Will, they just fit us tall girls better. The sleeves are all the way to our wrists, the shoulders are wider. With the Chinese making all our clothes these days, they are so much smaller and skimpier...gimme the good OLD goods anyday, it's where I buy all my clothes.

It's recycling...right!

Icky and rainy here too, no snow yet, just flooding, what next...s

OK! Spill it please ... Where did you find it? I'm in the market for a warm wintery coat ~ I have a huge down filled thing I purchased in MN and a very lightweight thing I purchased in FL. Take pity on me please.

Helen,
Drove to Prineville yesterday. The shop is called Neat Repeat. It's on the same side road that the museum is on...

I have a thing for vintage coats. Good find! One of my favorites was a gray woll dress coat with pale pink satin lining and black velvet trim. It was made for me, I swear. Sadly, it marched away with many of my fine things many years ago. Sad.

This makes me miss the '80s. (The wearing of oversized vintage coats and jackets, not the big hair!) Great find and I think the plaid lining rocks! (My favorite vintage coat is a gorgeous, calf length, black cashmere coat that belonged to my father and now hangs in my closet.)
