Staying with the US Consul General in Florence had many privileges, one of which was a private tour of The Acton Collection and the Garden at Villa la Pietra. Photographs were not allowed inside the house, but the gardens were definitely photo worthy. We enjoyed a picnic lunch of cheese, crackers, fruit and wine atop a white damask tablecloth on the grass in one of the garden rooms...
Gorgeous! And I love the dining on cheese, fruit, crackers and wine. Years ago when spending a little time in Europe we did the same. I have never forgotten the incredible delight of such simplicity amongst such beauty.
(Me thinks your blog break was way better then mine!)
Cara, at last I had a chance to sit and just DRINK IN the splendor of your trip to Florence and the surrounding countryside. I bet you never took your eye away from the camera. I so wanted to see these with you, but having them here on the site allows one time to peruse each image and imagine the heat, the smell of the voluptuous gardens, the zzzz of the zanzarie (mosquitoes) that plagued you... Meraviglioso. Un viaggo bellissimo... Ciao, ciao

Spectacular! I could just feel the sun, taste the bread , wine & cheese and drink in all the beauty. Wow...thanks for the mini vacation!!
sigh.... I love gardens. Especially grand, European ones. Especially when it means I have to be there in order to enjoy them.
Photos will do, though- and these are breathtaking.
