Summer

Where is your favorite camping spot?

This is mine: Graves Creek, a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) campground in the Olympic National Forest, Washington state.  This is where I want to run away to this summer...away from the dry, desert heat to the green, wet moss that literally drips off the trees.

“It's not that bad. I'm not saying I'd like to build a summer home here, but the trees are actually quite lovely.”

~ The Princess Bride

The Quinault River is a clear jadeite green and icy cold.

"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time”

~ John Lubbock

These photos were taken on a camping trip in 1994
with our trusty old point-n-shoot camera....
with film that had to be....developed!

I have camped in a zoo but never in a forest nor by a river. Such beautiful places! Happy Summer Charmaine!

Your photos are beautiful and I can just picture myself in this oasis. I used to camp in a similar place back in my uni days. It was in Pinar del Rio, the westernmost province in Cuba. Many thanks for such a wonderful article.

Greetings from London.

I would camp again anywhere in Colorado`s high country. Great fishing, stunning views and places where you can be alone and hear nothing but the breeze.

Now, if you just got rid of the logging and deforestation...all would be well in paradise!!!

I was in Seattle a few summers back for the first time and hiking on Whidbey Island made it obvious why that part of the country is called the Great Northwest - stunningly beautiful country.

Those photos made me homesick for Oregon. I lived near Coos Bay many, many years ago as a child. It was a wonderland for a little kid. We had no money, so for fun, went out on long drives into the woods and did a lot of camping. I miss it when I see pics like these. What a treat!

Beautiful. Reminds me of the hike my brother took me on up Mt Rainier many moons ago. It was so lush, green, and cool...

Egads! Film you have to develope? Horrors! LOL!

Seriously tho' I'd have to say the Colorado Rockies. Lived in Denver for a spell, as a kid and we always did a few trips in the summer. The winter was for tubin'( pick your own trail, back then ). Ah, memories :)

The trees are so beautiful and the river absolutely inviting! No wonder you would like to summer there. I still miss the old 35mm cameras!

Very beautiful set of pictures...I am sure it will be blissful there. I still have my old film camera..though I have no idea what I am going to do with it now since we are used to digital. Happy weekend :P

I stayed at Lake Quinault Lodge many years ago. What a great place to walk with a camera.
