The wind begun to rock the grass
With threatening tunes and low, -
He flung a menace at the earth,
A menace at the sky.
The leaves unhooked themselves from trees
And started all abroad;
The dust did scoop itself like hands
And throw away the road.
The wagons quickened on the streets,
The thunder hurried slow;
The lightning showed a yellow beak,
And then a livid claw.
The birds put up the bars to nests,
The cattle fled to barns;
There came one drop of giant rain,
And then, as if the hands
That held the dams had parted hold,
The waters wrecked the sky,
But overlooked my father's house,
Just quartering a tree.
~ Emily Dickinson
We've had thunderstorms for days...and they're in the forecast for days to come. I've decided to give in...and stay in.
Today is hereby proclaimed a jammie day.

Great poem! Thank you for a great read to start my day.
I love the golden light that bathes your photograph.
Did you have a thunderstorm last night too?! We had one right overhead complete with hail!
Beautiful. Dickinson was one of my Father's favorites.
We also have been having T- storms, and more are do tonight. The older I get the more they scare the wits out of me!
I had to snap a few photos of the hail piling up all around us yesterday ~
The best ???? A pitcher of sun tea brewing on the deck railing. Covered in white frozen slush.
I had taken a walk and returned home about 1.5 minutes before all hell broke loose!
someday i hope to proclaim everyday jammie day, for all the world. bit of a pipe dream, really. so in the meantime do enjoy yours!
Jammie day! Yes! But I'd rather there was no thunderstorm outside :-). Many thanks.
Greetings from London.
Sorry I've been MIA from here for a while. I'd forgotten how wonderful your posts always are: great photo, perfect poem, and a proposed jammies day to boot!
Wishing you the best and some good weather on the horizon.
Peace, Judi
My PERFECT days!! I would be in hog heaven. And the poem is luscious....so vivid.
PJ's are the best invention on the planet. We're rainy here too. Gorgeous photo & love the Dickinson selection. Enjoy your day in!
I adore jammie days.
Hooray for Jammie Day! Great poem - very fitting.
We get real hellcat thunderstorms every evening here in the south around dinnertime. They sure are exciting!

More rain this week...did we lose the sun...?
Love the golden color in the photo and the poem is perfect as the picture could be in any era.
There's been lots of jammie days here, too...I even bought a summer "duster" and look real grannie in it!
