The shadow here lets me imagine just what the shadow shape could be, besides a swing: an orange crate with loaded with sweet fruit. Or perhaps a lobster trap. Maybe something else. This is a nice capture under a sunny sky!
Great quote to go with the image! Oh, I feel the invitation to sit and relax in the warmth of the sun on that swing. Only to be lulled into an afternoon nap.
A porch swing! How heavenly! When you start looking there are so many shadows to see - the crispness of the swing shadow, the whispy shadows of what looks like million bell flowers, the chain trailing down the swing back and the dappled shadows on the wall of the house. Such wonderful painting being done. :) Round The Bend.
Love that quote! I'll meet you on the swing! Have the coffee ready! I'll bring chocolate cookies. Oh, hang on, I'm not sure you can eat chocolate cookies if I remember correctly. Oh well, more for me! :D
That does look like a prime spot to spend a quiet afternoon!
The pictures you asked about are all in their original color, just as they came off the Library of Congress website. Their colors are what attracted me to them primarily, as the tones made the subjects that much more compelling.

oh...we like Ralph's lobster trap suggestion - yes!
It's sad that our sitting on the porch days are coming to an end!

Your house looks pink like mine...NEAT!!! However we had clouds and flurries all day and 38 degrees. I chipped ice out of my birdbath...argh!!!

A gorgeous shadow shot. When the sun's done "painting" your deck, could he make a stop off at my place to finish my kitchen? Please? :)

Ahhh... I was missing these! Lovely shot. Many thanks.
Greetings from London.
Oh how lovely, I'd like to sit a while and swing. I like the contrast between the long likes of the swing and the bushy shadow from the potted plant.
