Retrofit

Stylish stereos ~

image from Life Magazine

My niece and her husband are currently restoring a Sylvania stereo cabinet. This solid piece sold for $300 in 1963...quite a chunk of change for that time period. The cabinet had been left outside by the previous owner, so there was rain damage and the radio no longer works. An ipod connection is being installed to bring this piece up to 21st century technology.

Cool project.

WT made one of these in woodshop in HS. Gosh, I don't even know what happened to it.

What a fun project! I don't know what make it was, but we had a similar record player cabinet at the cottage for years... I wonder if it's hidden in the basement somewhere!

My grandparents had something like this. Just sparked nice trip down memory lane: It was nearby my grandfather's desk and he kept his wastepaper basket there where he would toss all the mail he didn't read. I would go through it and play "mailman" by taking it all out and delivering it to everyone in the house.

Yep, I remember them too, in fact, in my first apartment, I got my folks cabinet with the "guts" taken out of it, so I used it for storage, etc. Weighed a ton, I moved on without it...thanks for jogging my memory

OMG...I sent this to my Dad, he will freak out...he still has his folks' stereo, which is a spittin' image of the one on the bottom left...LOL!

That is such an endearing shot of Mark and Trux...I just don't understand the hatred of man against wolf...could it be money...the root of all evil!!!

Your list of guests below is exactly whom I would chose, though I might have to throw in Queen Bess the 1st, just for the man bashing...LOL!

Fun posts, been having computer issues...

To think that all that's needed nowaways is an iPod and speakers (and even those come as flat and as small as an iPod!)! It's a beautiful piece of furniture!

My Dad gave me one from 1962, the year I was born. He collects vinyl... Everything still works in mine and it's in great shape. But, I rarely use it because my purse, keys, and junk end up landing on it... I still love it!

Been thinking about you. Haven't been over here in awhile. Hope you have a wonderful 2010!
