A place for books

“These are not books, lumps of lifeless paper, but minds alive on the shelves.”

~ Gilbert Highet

I like the use of the stairwell wall as book storage in this architect designed home.
Check out the stair design, too.
Nice elements.

The stairwell wall/bookshelf

“Book lovers will understand me, and they will know too that part of the pleasure of a library lies in its very existence”

~ Jan Morris

Love the book towers!

Love it. I must have my books about me, as well.

We photographed a home in Camas on Friday that was filled to the brim with book after book. It was a thrill that reminded me of going to the library with my mother every Saturday when I was growing up. Nothing compared to squatting in "my" section and deliberating over which books to choose that week. Saw a great one by Katharine Graham I want to get - her days at the Washington Post, etc. Now, where is the time to READ????

I really love the staircase bookshelf as it reminds me of when my girls were little... they would play "library" and would use the open space between the stair rails of each step as the book shelves, (which I thought was so clever of them). Thanks for bringing back a happy memory!
