Fun!

When my friend Linda was a kid, she ask her dad when they could go to Disneyland. He told her she'd have to win a trip if she wanted to go because they couldn't afford to take the family.

Linda, ever resourceful, found out about a Hula Hoop contest, began practicing, entered the competition, and won! She, along with her whole family got to go to Disneyland after all.

So in honor of Linda's determination (and her 50th birthday), I made her this card:

Not to be outdone, Linda's sister Beth decided to enter a Hula Hoop competition a year or so later....she won the family a second trip to Disneyland. And then the baby, Kandi, decided she needed to get in on the fun. Yep. Another win....another family trip to Disneyland. Don't mess with the Aldridge sisters.....they can Hula like no ones business!

Great story. A little indie movie should be made about it. And a fabulous card, too! So personal, hope she frames it!

Great story... tho Dizzyland would shut down if only contest winners were allowed to go there!

Wonder what the Hula Hoop people thought seeing who was winning their contest?

Your card is Fabu! Bet she was really pleased! I can safely say that the hulahoop was never one of my great passions, which might explain my lack of free trips to Disneyland. I wonder if Walt and Mickey appreciate competitive Twinkie eating at all.... I could wear my ears hat with "Karen" stitched on it, if that would help. Or, Hostess could just send me to Disneyland as a spongecake ambassador!

my goodness! The Aldridge family must be famous in their town! I can't hoola-hoop so I'm soooo impressed. Did you ever see the hoola-hooper (is there such a word?) in Cirque du Soleil - amazing !!!! I'm thinking of the Aldridge sisters in that sense!

the ever so talented Diva, what a card, i guess Hula hoop is great way to exercise and to lose all those love handles, did tried it when the kids had a go few years back ..but of course can do it as good as the young ones. and your friend is really resourceful, if i could win a ticket to disney, i'll hula hoop too from here :) big hug to you

Wonderful card and story! My goodness, I had no idea hula-hooping could be so lucrative! What industrious youngsters those Aldridge sisters were! The three woman could do a revival act, and try to win another trip!

I love your card and the story!!! I love to hula hoop, and have ever since I was a kid. When we lived on Maui, I learned to dance the hula. I will be the first to tell you that there is not much similarity between the dance and the "hula" hoop. Both are still quite fun, in any case. Thanks for the smiles.

Great Card - - thanks for sharing, brings back "funtastic" memories for certain! And we did do a revival routine for the hula hoops 50th anniversary, but then they cancelled the contest before it even began. We have video tho - - you'll have to ask Linda to see it sometime!
