Full of art

I once read a statistic that 1 in every 9 women will get breast cancer.

I have known 4 women who have had this disease.
One who has died,
one who had a double mastectomy while in her early 30's,
one who is in remission,
and one who is scheduled for a double mastectomy within the week.

There are many fundraisers, walks, runs, etc.  Other women (and men) banding together, raising both awareness and money.

I think this is the best I've seen...and if you live in South Carolina, you might have the chance to witness it first hand.

Members have created one-of-a-kind bras for Breast Cancer Awareness. The exhibit consists of forty-nine original works of art which are unique, entertaining, humorous, and beautiful to make the public aware of breast cancer, to memorialize those lost to the disease, and to honor survivors.

Thelma & Louise (A Pair of Perky Birds) ~ Karen Kendo

For Those Who Served ~ Vicki McCormick
This is lined in red lace, but it doesn't show in the photo...

Carolyn's Garden ~ Sue Spillane

Look at Them Melons ~ Bev Buchanan
~~~
Pisces II ~ Gail Ferrick
The exhibit will tour South Carolina until October of 2009 at which time individual Artfull Bras will be auctioned and the proceeds donated to the Best Chance Network, a program to provide care and treatment of uninsured women across the state who are diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancer.
Such talent, and for a great cause. I need to contact my grandmother, I wonder if she knows about this. I'm certain her Methodist Women's Group are more than willing to fill a local school bus to see these!
Fantastic idea and so worthy of support. I think we have all been touched by this disease in some way, xv.
What a great way to bring awareness to this disease. I hope that your friend's surgery is successful this week.
I love the touch of humor these women brought to a serious pursuit. Wish I were close enough to go see it!
My sister got breast cancer, followed by a mastectomy and reconstruction surgery when she was 40 years old. I saw a show like this a few years back at a quilt show, and bought a calendar of the artwork as well. I think it's a great way to raise awareness and money, and am so happy to see that the bra art is still being made and helping this cause.
These are great pieces! I often participate in breast cancer fundraisers. None as fun as this one though!
These are fantastic!!! I'm sending the link to your blog to my walking team. (My friend is Michelle, at Cicada and she posted about the Avon Walk for me.)
I love the fish, being a Pisces, myself. But, then, those perky birds are a trip.
These are fantastic. I lost my mother to breast cancer when she was only 27 years old. Will we ever find a cure? Well maybe with fundraisers like this one...
How cool!!! I love those bras, and what a great idea for a fundraiser. I know at least 5 women who have had breast cancer.
