When you're ready for gardening, here are the most highly deer resistant/colorful flowers for your garden: ageratum, vinca, buttercup, catnip, foxglove, daffodil, nicotiana, forget-me-not, lamb's ear, allium, sweet alyssum, coreopsis, snapdragon, calendula and globe thistle. My mom solved her rabbit problem by putting carrots out for them! Spring is almost here!
I thought I had the deer problem figured out. Your list of plants is very similar to what I had in my valley garden. There were about 5 deer who visited almost daily.
When we moved here, and I began landscaping I thought: no problem. I've dealt with deer for years. I know what to plant and what not to plant.
$1000 in plants....they've nibbled on all but one of them!
Topic #1 -- The shot is lovely! So often we think of shadow shots in B&W, but I love the colors!
Topic #2 -- DEER!! Yes, we struggle with them, too. I have been told if they are hungry enough they will eat ANYTHING, includes items on the deer-do-not-eat list....
Swooned over the photo today. And I'm wild for shadows on color. Your office must be quite a sanctuary for the mind.
Thanks so MUCH for dropping by "my place" and for your kind comments. Hope to see you again and I'm following you now. I think I need a daily dose of your lovely inspiration in a variety of mediums.
Your office space must be very inspirational - it's beautiful! Around here to help control deer nibbling, people soak habanero peppers in water and then make a spray out of it and spray plants, trees etc to keep the deer away. All natural - just spray downwind...
Rachel, Thanks! and thanks for the habanero trick. We tried that last summer. Problem was, our sprinkler system. Every morning all that water would just wash the juice away. We eventually gave up!
The beautiful painting is certainly enhanced by the evening shadows - I love it.
We don't have deer problems in our part of the world, although there are a couple which wander around, nearly causing accidents as drivers gape, unable to believe their eyes. You mentioned that they nibbled on every plant except one. I'd be rushing out buying in stacks of that variety!
I've always loved the color combination of purple and yellow. This is such a cool photo. It's so simple yet there is so much going on in it and so much to figure out. Some of it is hard to tell. The yellow leaves look, at times, to be painted on the purple vase; like the one in the middle.
