Skylight shadows

"The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way.  Some see nature all ridicule and deformity...and some scarce see nature at all.  But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself."

~ William Blake

Homeowner Jonathan Williams designed plywood cutouts based on oak tree photos to use in the skylights to help block light and reduce heat gain. Ever-changing shadows are cast throughout the day.

How seriously flippin' cool is that!?!

Oh yes! That is seriously flippin' cool! And do you know what else is seriously flippin' cool? The size of that bowl in the middle of the room! Imagine how many chips that would hold!!! :D

I really like the play between this idea, the picture of it, and William Blake's words about nature/imagination.

Nice shot. I live surrounded by oak trees and if we had skylights, we'd have these shadows naturally...or maybe not, because they'd constantly be covered with leaves, acorns and oh yes, our favorite, the ubiquitous yellow/green oak pollen. Much better to do the sanitized version! Not to mention much safer if a branch comes crashing down in a storm. Don't get me wrong though, I love our trees.

What a great idea... if you can't have the real thing... then at least get close! Also, the dogs have it on all of us... Dixie also heads for the shade when we are outside in the sun.
